On 15th May will be held an information day under under Strategic project „Joint Risk Monitoring during Emergencies in the Danube Area Border“, reference number № 2s-2.2-1, MIS-ETC Code: 166 financed by the European Regional development fund and the State budgets of Republic of Bulgaria and Republic of Romania under the Crossborder Cooperation Programme Romania-Bulgaria 2007-2013.
During that information day between 10 and 12 A.M. at the Information centre to the Inspectorate students from several schools in Veliko Tarnovo will be given the chance to draw in colours their messages about decreasing the pollution in the air with greenhouse gases and preventing further climate changes. The messages will be further promoted with the kind support of the Crossborder Cooperation Programme Romania-Bulgaria 2007-2013 and through project partners will reach the public in the crossborder area of the Danube river.
At 12.15 PM at a news conference will be presented the goals of the event while the participants who have showed best results will be awarded.
Become messengers for tangible actions to help the Earth!
The messages will be arranged in the shape of a symbolic path which every citizen must walk on for better future of our planet.
The information day is dedicated to the International Day of fight against climate change which is 15 May. It was first announced by the ministers of the member states to the Framework Convention of the United Nations on Climate Change, signed on 5th June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its main goal is to coordinate the actions in a number of countries worldwide in relation to decreasing the global warming trend – one of the main problems before mankind nowadays.
RIEW Veliko Tarnovo is committed to continuos work for decreasing greenhouse emissions by taking tangible actions while using the opportunities and resources provided by the project. „We are able to expand the partnership for better monitoring and management of both natural and anthropogenic risks that exist in the Danube river cross-border area“ – says Mr. Elin Andreev, Managing director of the environmental inspectorate in Veliko Tarnovo. The team of this regional institution is in close cooperation with Bulgarian and Romanian organisations, institutions and schools to help these neighbour countries to turn to low carbon economy in order to cope with the technogenic and geographical risks.
The European Union 2020 Strategy for intelligent, sustainable and favourable convergence sets ambitious goals which must be reached by 2020 and are related to climate change and sustainable energy, namely: decrease of greenhouse gases by 20 % (or even 30 % if the necessary conditions to achieve that are available) compared to 1990; increase by 20 % of the energy generated by renewable sources, increase by 20 % of energy efficiency.
