World Water Day is celebrated annually on 22nd March and its aim is to make world public aware of sustainable management of water resources and draw its attention upon the importance of fresh water availability and supplies. The initiative was born back in 1992 at the United Nations Conference „Environmental Protection and Development“ held in Rio de Janeiro. The day is officially commemorated since 1993 as annually worldwide are held events dedicated to water.
