A joint procedure 01/12/2011 between RIEW Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, and the National Environmental Protection Agency of Romania for real-time communication during emergencies caused by accidental pollution in the Danube river basin with cross-border impacts will be officially signed on 27 March 2012 in Veliko Tarnovo. The procedure is developed within the project “Joint risk monitoring during emergencies in the Danube area border”, MIS-ETC Code: 166, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria through the Romania – Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.
Daniel Bogdan, Deputy Chief Commissioner at the National Environmental Protection Agency of Romania and Dipl. Eng. Elena Grigorova, Director of RIEW Veliko tarnovo will officially sign a protocol for its adoption at 11:00 h on 27 March in Yantra Grand Hotel. The event will be attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Evdokiya Maneva, the directors of regional inspectorates from the Danube border region, Romanian and Bulgarian partners and environmental experts. The joint procedure is the first successful result of the partnership built between the two institutions. It aims at implementing an effective system of communication between the Bulgarian and the Romanian institutions, which will provide fast and reliable exchange of information in real time and ensure the timely notification of the population about the emergency, the existing and potential risks. The procedure aims to support and accelerate the process of making joint decisions to prevent and reduce the negative effects of pollution. The signing of the Protocol is part of the agenda of the joint seminar “Contemporary models for monitoring and risk assessment in the area of environment” with a workshop to assess the situation regarding accidental pollution and assignment of responsibilities, organised by Eurosociety Tarnovgrad and RIEW Veliko Tarnovo. The seminar will be held from 26 to 30 March 2012.
